Removals in Totnes
Twenty-four miles east, and one of the more interesting towns we work in. Rated 5.0 from 35 Google reviews.
The hill is the job
Totnes is about twenty-four miles by road from us. The distance is the easy part. What makes a Totnes move different is the town itself — one long, steep, narrow main street with the properties stacked either side of it.
What that means in practice
- You often cannot park outside. Much of the High Street and Fore Street has loading restrictions, and what parking there is fills early. A carry from wherever we can legally stop is normal here and we would rather price it in than discover it.
- Listed buildings and conservation rules. A lot of central Totnes is protected. Original staircases are narrow and turn tightly, doorways are small, and floors are old. We do not force things through gaps — where something will not go, it comes apart.
- Flats above shops. Common on the main street, and usually reached by a single narrow stair from the street. Slow, careful work rather than difficult work, but it takes the time it takes.
- Gradient. Carrying downhill loaded is harder on people and furniture than carrying on the flat. It is a real factor in how long a job runs.
Outside the centre
Bridgetown, Follaton and the newer streets off the ring road are ordinary, straightforward moves. Dartington, Berry Pomeroy, Harberton, Ashprington and Staverton are the same run for us — lanes again, so the same advice as Tavistock applies.
Tell us the street
Totnes is the town where the address changes the price most. When you get your price, say which street and which floor — it is the difference between a figure that holds and one that does not.
